Life Cycle Assessment
As part of our design process, Preserve uses a tool known as a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to assess the environmental impact of our materials, products, and services. Life Cycle Assessment is a tool used to compare the environmental impact of a product or system’s entire life cycle, from raw material sourcing to manufacture to disposal. Or more simply, an LCA measures the impact from the beginning to the end: including transporting the source material for Preserve Plastic, making Preserve products, getting the product to the store and your doorstep, and finally, what happens to the product when you are done with it.
LCA takes account of emissions, resource depletion and land use changes that may occur during:
• Extraction from nature
• Materials processing
• Product manufacturing
• Distribution and sales
• Use and upgrading
• End of life disposition to landfill, incineration or recycling
• Transportation between stages or within each stage
