Here at Preserve HQ the number of office canines jumped to four. And we started a group we call Project Zero—we’ve developed 15 different initiatives to work toward becoming a zero waste office and to aggressively monitor our energy use and C02 emissions. Justin is spearheading composting in the kitchen, Elisa is weatherproofing our windows, Tever is maintaining our travel-related carbon calculation, and John and John weigh our trash and recycling on a weekly basis so we can measure our progress.
We’ve grown a lot in the last year and are incredibly thankful for your sustained support. These may not be easy economic times, but we stand by our commitment to bring you products you love that are better for the earth and go easy on your wallet. |
Preserve Recycles Brita Water Filters
We are proud to announce that we have teamed up with Brita and, beginning in January, will recycle all Brita pitcher filters returned to our Preserve Gimme 5 program. The No. 5 polypropylene plastic from the casing will be used in our products. The filter ingredients – activated carbon and additional ion-exchange resin that reduces lead, mercury, copper, cadmium and zinc that might be found in tap water – will be regenerated for alternative use or converted into energy.
Starting in January, you can drop off your used, dry Brita pitcher filters at participating Whole Foods Market stores or mail them directly to Preserve Gimme 5. Tell Us What You Think
Once a year, we like to check in and assess the State of Preserve and our Preservers. Global Warming. Global Action.
If we do not take collective action to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million, we will cause huge and irreversible damage to the earth. We are currently at 380 ppm, and it will take everyone’s action and political support to meet the 350 goal. 350.org is increasing awareness around the number 350. Many are hopeful that President-elect Obama’s administration will commit to stronger climate change regulations soon after he takes office.
